BWCA 2008

This was year 3 of Ty joining Daddy on the Boundary Waters canoe trip. Eric, Dain, Zack, Brad, Ty & Cali headed off to Northern Minnesota for 6 days in the woods, according to Brad-no big deal. Ty had a blast again, he feels like one of the big guys out there and I love that they all think he's a pretty cool kid and everyone watches out for him. I have tons of great pictures so be warned...there are too many good ones that I have to share!
Cleaning dinner on 'paddle' cutting boards.
Nothing needs to be said about these next few, probably one of the most beautiful places ever.

Night fisherman.

The guys putting Ty to work cutting up some firewood.
Dain showing off his bear pack skills.

Ty getting in an afternoon nap.
Purifying water, really, how many 5 year olds have done that?
Dain showing Ty his camping cooking skills.
Waiting for the big one...

Master Fisherman in the making

All of these were taken up in Walker, MN. Eric's grandma had a cabin up there & he still tries to visit every year. His friend Tony and dog Makaeba joined them and the did a whole lot of fishing....
A little night fishing.

They're Back!!!!

After being gone for 33 days, Eric, Ty & Cali have returned home safe & sound from another summer road trip. Eric took 377 pictures on their trip so it will take quite a few posts to cover everything. They spent the first night camping in Utah. Ty LOVES camping and has even chosen this as his birthday party this year, he wants his friends & their daddy's to go camping. I really don't know how this kid and his love of the outdoors could make Eric prouder. He truly is his father's son.
Ty and Cali. It's really cute how he has grown so attached to her, he loves to pet, play & snuggle with her and she loves the attention.

Yes, Ty caught a frog, and yes, Eric threw it to a snake. Ewwww.....

The Track

Yesterday Julie, Em & I took Mason & Luke to the Del Mar Racetrack. It was so much fun!!! Del Mar has family days every Saturday & Sunday in the infield. They have jump houses, face painting & games-and it's all free!! We had to pay to get in & of course to bet but other than that it was a great deal. The boys were so good and the day so beautiful. They loved watching the horses race by and cheering on the horse they picked.
Good thing they can't read....
Mace & Jules
Jules got them a treat for being so good.
And afterwards, a trip to the beach across the street. What a great day.

The Birthday boy Jake!

My brother in law's birthday was the day after we arrived in MN and he and Kari had us over for an awesome birthday dinner. I don't think there is anything better in the late summer than sweet corn from the midwest. I think I ate way more than my fair share over the course of the week.
Jake is one of those guys who like gadgets, gizmos & instructions, the kind of guy whose birthday would best be spent at Best Buy. Jake picked out steaks for all of us then depending on the cut, thickness & the way you wanted it cooked he went online to some steak grilling website and put all of our info in and it spit out a handy dandy spreadsheet with our names and times for grilling. So Jake-like, and they turned out perfect!! (and yes, we made quite a bit of fun, here he is with his print out & timer)

Jake & Kari have turned their basement into a fabulous media room with stadium seats, recessed lighting, surround sound and of course the new 67 inch HD TV Jake got for his birthday.
